Giant Floral Arrangements in Urns
These were a fun project. The idea was to have 2 urns with floral arrangements of over-sized flowers. The arrangement should be about 4’ tall and the colors should clash as much as possible with the costumes.
The added difficulty was building them in St Louis, MO and shipping them down to Vero Beach, FL to be put together by someone on that end. So they needed to disassemble into multiple shippable pieces and be easy and labeled well enough to be put back together.
The urns handily came in 2 parts. So I attached the bottom to a plywood square base that I painted to match the urn. The top bowl of the urn I fitted with pvc pipe pieces in a basic arrangement, glued and sealed them in, and then filled in around the pipes with Great Stuff. Then painted and papier mached covered the pipes to look like stems.
The stems had pvc base that fit into the urn pipes. The rest was made with strips of chicken wire covered in masking tape and papier mached. The leaves with several pieces of tissue paper sandwiched with a wire frame in between and then painted with detail.
The blooms had a short pvc base to fit over the tips of the stems. The blooms were made out of layers of tissue paper petals. Under the bloom I put small bud leaves and a foam bumper to enhance the appearance of a real rose bloom.
For shipping everything broke down into pieces into 5 boxes plus a fix it kit.
